“I have 4c hair, and maintaining natural hair was a hustle”

What's the most important lesson you've learned along your hair journey?

“Patience.”

What advice would you give to a person that wants to loc their hair?

“Go to a well known loctician, they won't mess you up.”

Do you have any hair tips you'd like to share?

What is your go to hairstyle?

“Tying the up in a bun. Gives me a natural face lift.”

What does professionalism mean to you?

“Manners and show of good business sense.”

Has having locs been a hurdle that you’ve had to overcome in professional environments?

“My work environment is flexible as a model; every hairstyle is art. I’m a plus size model, that itself is a hurdle.”

How has your experience being a model with locs been?

“We don't get special attention because a lot of Kenyan women rock their natural hair and dreadlocks has been here even before colonialists. You should come to Kenya. In Nairobi itself, almost 30% of the women here have locs.”

Being from Kenya, can you share some more about how locs are perceived in Kenya

“In Kenya, dreadlocks has been a long culture. Women are allowed to have dreadlocks at work but they got to be somewhat neat styled”
